1. Study Participant Profile

The Organisational Adoption Study Coordinator should identify Study Participants for the defined region. Study participants should be practitioners with working experience in Owner, Architecture, Engineering, Contracting, and Operation organisations in either the building or infrastructure sectors. The Study Participant must have been involved in the decision-making process that has led to the acceptance/adoption of BIM or its rejection.

Study Participants should have the following roles:

• Head of a Department (or their delegates)
• Chief Technology Officer (or their delegates)
• Directors, partners (or their delegates)
• BIM Leader, Coordinator, information manager, or similar
• Chief Engineer (or their delegates)

A priori, we rely on “Expert” participants that are vetted by the Study Coordinator:

• Experts based on the organisation they represent and/or work at
• Experts based on their individual roles within the represented organisation

The Study Coordinator should secure at least 90 Study Participants (representing 90 different organisations). The Sample Distribution needs to follow the below guidelines:

• By Organisational Size: 70% need to be either small (less than 15 employees) and medium-sized organisations (less than 100 staff). The remainder 30% can be from larger organisations
• By Organisational Discipline 50% designers, 30% contractors, and 20% owners/operators
• By other criteria: it is recommended that the organisations are also well-spread by geographic location (not all from a single region) and by Project Type (e.g. infrastructure vs high-rise residential vs ports)

2. Study Method

Step 1: Data Collection

1. The Study Coordinator will need to promote the study to individual contacts and through professional or social networks.
2. The Study Participants will then complete the study using the online platform.
3. The study Coordinator reviews the responses provided by:
   • Ensuring that only one response is recorded per organization.
   • Ensuring the sample is representative of the Region (e.g., well-spread over the geographical locations, disciplines, organization sizes, and similar criteria.)
4. The study Coordinator then concludes data collection (closes the Study) once the targeted sample size has been reached.

Step 2: Data Analysis

The Study Coordinator will:

1. Analyze the data received; and
2. Develop a representative summary of their Region.
